16 December

On 16 December 1882 Wales and England contested the first Home Nations rugby union match. Today, that tournament has become the 6 Nations championship (which England won this year, by the way).

When competing in a scrum for your customer’s money, finding the time and energy can be a bit Eddie Waring (we know, it’s another code but it’s too good to miss) and you can sometimes get a bit of a mauling. If they’re being stand-offish, trying to blindside you or things become held up, you might be wheeling round in circles until you’re full back at square one.

By hooker by crook though, we can usually (and legally) get your clients to pay their debts (their Owens, if you like) with our outsourced credit control service. We don’t wing it and we put you at the centre of everything we do, whether your business is inside or outside.

So if money’s tight, head over to our website to convert to another way of doing things. We’ll help your business stay on its feet during these trying times.

15 December

On 15 December 2001 the Leaning Tower of Pisa reopened after 11 years’ work to stabilise its foundations. The reason for its fame was unaffected but the work cost a cool $27m.

While most of us enjoy having money, being Inclined to chase for it is usually not high on most people’s List. But if it’s not done, those customers with an Angle will think that they can Slope off without paying and, left unchecked, this can lead to Lean times.

So here’s our Pitch. With our outsourced credit control service, we do the chasing so that you’re free to direct your time and your energy towards what you do best: delivering great service to your customers. Even better, you’re building in a Degree of separation from providing the service (and keeping your relationship) and the sometimes messier work of getting in the money.

So to put a different Slant on improving your cashflow, drop us a Plumb Line today.

11 December

The United Nations celebrates International Mountain Day on 11 December each year.

When you’ve done a good piece of work it’s tempting to say to yourself ‘I’ll put my feet up and everest.’ But a sale’s not complete and the job’s not finished until the money’s in.

It’s not OK 2 leave things be, as a glacial wait for the dosh can have you tensing up and nawing your finger nails all the way down to palms of your ‘andes.

If a lack of cash is stopping your operation being at its peak, maybe it’s time to be honest and ask if you should get somebody else to do the money-chasing for you. If the answer’s ‘yes’ then our outsourced credit control and debt recovery services is just the ‘alp you need: we deal with getting the money so that you don’t get snowd-onder with it.

9 December

As I was on 9 December 1851 that the first YMCA in North America was established in Montreal, it’s time to get out the song sheets.

Young man, there’s no need to feel down,

We said young man, get yourself off the ground,

We can help you, get that bill paid, you’ll see

If you just trust us to do it.

All you need to do is just,

Pass the bill our way

Just pass the bill our way,

We’ll have it paid in no time

Everything will be fine

You can just sit back and chill out

We can’t sing, we can’t dance, but we can collect your money for you [Isn’t that a reference to Rhiana?].

Just remember, YMCA: Yes, Money, Can, Arrive.

8 December

On 8 December 1979 the group Styx went to number 1 in the US singles chart with ‘Babe’.

It’s a boar when your order book is full but your bank balance empty. You should be bringing home the bacon but if your customers aren’t paying it can be sow unfair.

When trying to make things better the easy thing to do is say that it’s your customer’s fault but is it right to a-porcine the blame that way? Perhaps your business could have been more proactive.

We know that asking for money can be daunting and it’s easy to make a pig’s ear of it but with our outsourced credit control service we’ll take away all the hassle of having to have difficult conversations with, for example, that Mr D Trotter from Peckham. We’ll do as much or as litter as your ledger requires.

That leaves you to get on with the things that you’re good at or want to do, like going to the market, staying at home, having roast beef, having none….

7 December

7 December saw The Great Storm of 1703, the greatest windstorm ever recorded in the southern part of Great Britain. Winds gusted up to 120 mph, and 9,000 people died.

It can seem like business is a breeze when sales are whizzing out of the door but actually you can have a stormy time of it when waiting to get paid.

Finding out that paying you on time isn’t always high on people’s priority lists can often take the wind right out of your sails and leave you exposed with a draughty gap in your cash flow.

Making time to give your overdue debtors a blast can be difficult when you’re caught in the daily whirlwind of running your business. So instead of getting your knickers in a twister, why not consider a wind of change?

Let us put the wind up your customers and forecast a calmer future for your business with our outsourced credit control or debt recovery services. You’ll mon-soon be seeing the benefits.

We don’t want to re-gale you but think we’re a force, so let us bring you a breath of fresh air.

4 December

On 4 December 1954 the first Burger King was opened in Miami, Florida.

How many times have your customers told you whoppers about ‘the cheques in the post’ or ‘there’s no-one to authorise the payment’? And how many times have you planned to call back, only to find that you forgot, or ran out of time, or just plain didn’t want the hassle of calling again?

Good credit control needs to be like fast food: consistent quality, dished up promptly, heated if necessary and there when you need it.

If the way you do your debt chasing now isn’t cutting the mustard, then perhaps it’s time to shake things up a bit. So the next time Wendy gives you the run around, or Ronald McDonald is always out to lunch, don’t chicken out and let them get away with it. We’ll be happy to take your order to collect.

We’re here to put the beef into your credit control when you’re feeling Wimpy.

3 December

On 3 December 1927 the first Laurel and Hardy film, Putting Pants on Philip, was released.

Aside from the impact on your bank account, there’s another fine mess that they’ve gotten you into when your customers don’t pay: how to find the time to get them to cough up. The best way to do it can also leave you scratching your head: do you offer them an ollie branch or stan your ground? Either way it’s hardy going to be the best strategy to rest on your laurels.

The most time- and cost-effective way of getting your money could well be to bring us in to do it for you. We’ve got more than 20 years’ experience of dealing with people who think that they can get away with not paying by them either putting on an act worthy of Laurence Oliver or threatening to wield a (metaphorical) stanley knife. It’s seldom black and white but we have tried and tested strategies that go way beyond just slapsticking a CCJ on the debtor (which is seldom the end of it anyway).

The fat is, we thin that instead of giving yourself a mountain to climb (whether it’s blue ridge or otherwise), we’ll do right by you and we’ll eat our bowler hat if we don’t.

2 December

2 December is National Mutt Day.

You may sometimes feel like a sheepdog trying to round up payments from your customers. Some people’s cavalier attitude to payment might be leaving you unable to pay your own bills and forcing you to be a doberman-penny-pincer through no fault of your own.

If Jack or Russell keep coming up with pointer-less excuses not to pay, or you’re fed up trying to pin St Bernard down to a commitment to cough up, then perhaps the time has come to sit! back and let someone else take the lead.

We won’t hound your customers but will apply a bit of dogged determination so we can regularly retriever your money on time.

Our methods of credit control are friendly but persistent, firm but polite as this gets the best results. There’ll be no ruff stuff from us, although the inner rottweiler can be unleashed if necessary.

We give effective and affordable credit control with a little bit of bite.

1 December

1 December is National Pie Day so how many pie references can you spot?

Trying to earn a crust can be tricky when you’ve got debtors that won’t pay. You probably didn’t go into business for the thrill of chasing people for money and the prospect of having difficult conversations may be filling you with dread.

We don’t think that you’re being a cowardy custard because there’s an art to spotting when somebody’s telling porkies and when it’s right to not mince your words. We think we’ve got that art, so much so that we’ll steak (and kidney) our reputation on it. We’d even put the house or the cottage on it.

With our outsourced credit control service we can gently shepherd your debtors into doing the right thing. You control how much we do and, if you’ve got customers that need sensitive handling, where we focus our attention.

So don’t be a stick in the mud or too humble about things – if you let us we’ll scotch your cashflow problems.

30 November

On 30 November 1934 the Flying Scotsman became the first locomotive to be authenticated as reaching 100 mph.

It’s no Jock when you’ve done a good job but your customers are telling you to Whistle for your money. Your cashflow targets will have been on Track but are now facing Derailment.

Instead of being on the Mainline of building your business, your time is spent being Shunted off into the Sidings and it can leave you with Steam coming out of your ears. If you don’t do anything about these difficult conversations, that can be even worse and your business could hit the Buffers.

Our outsourced credit control service could however be just the Ticket for you. We’ll Conductor-n exercise (sorry about that one) to Coal-late where your ledger’s at and then work to get your money in, leaving you to work on what you do best.

Sodor-n’t delay, if you let us at it you’ll soon be Chuffed.
